Picked up from the Landsberg Hotel. Ok, you may not believe this story but I swear it is true. My wife of almost five years and I were eating at Qdoba Sunday night and I look at the Shepperd Express to catch up on local happenings in Milwaukee. I was out of the loop while on vacation in Arizona. I discovered one of our favorite bands Reverend Horton Heat was playing, I check the date and realize the show was in an hour! We decide to go at the last minute.
We arrive at the Miramar Theatre (Oakland + Wells, near Atomic Records) sort of late and discover the show is sold out. :(
So we are standing there and a guy offers a single ticket for sale. No good there is two of us. We must have looked sad and pathetic standing there shivering outside because suddenly this guy by the big bus in front says, "Pssst. Come here."
I walk over and my jaw drops when I discover it is the Reverend himself Jim Heath. He said, "I'm Jim Heath, I heard them say it is sold out."
"Yeah," I answer.
He summons some roady guy and asked what my name is. So I spell it to the roady.
"OK we'll get you out of the cold, he'll go in and put you on the guest list."
Now I'm in sort of a mild daze.
Then he introduces himself to my wife.
I say sort of lamely, "Thanks. We've seen you before at Shank Hall and Summerfest."
"Oh yeah, Summerfest is always fun to play," he said.
The roady comes back and says all set, just tell them your name.
""Get in there out of the cold," Jim said.
"Thanks, we really appreciate it." I replied.
Then he went back on board his tour bus.
Four songs into the show we were still in a mild state of shock and disbelief. That was really cool. Not only did we get into a sold out show, but we didn't have to pay!
