Ambassador Schleswig-Holstein

Hello,

I am the ambassador of Pico4Fun for „Schleswig-Holstein“ - the nicest of all German federal states.

My task is travelling the whole globe (all continents – by boats/ships, planes, trains, cars, motorcycles, trucks, … etc.) and show the the world, that Germany is more than „Bavaria“ and „Hamburg“ ;-)

Schleswig-Holstein ist the most northern of the German federals states (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schleswig-Holstein) - „the land between the seas“ is shaped on the West-Side by the Northern Sea line and on the East Side by the Baltic Sea line.

In the North of Schleswig-Holstein you find the border to Denmark, in the South you find the city of Hamburg (which is not only a famous city, but also forms one of the federal states of Germany; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamburg).

The capital city of Schleswig-Holstein is Kiel, which is famous and well-known to all sailors due to „Kiel Week“ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiel_Week), one of the biggest sailing events in the world.

The area of Schleswig-Holstein summarizes to approx. 15.800 km² with about 2,88 Mio people living here.

In the area of Schleswig-Holstein you can survive with only one special universal northern word: „Moin“! (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moin)

Depending on the pronouncement the Word „Moin“ means everything: „Hello!“, „Good Bye!“, „I‘m fine, everything is OK!“, „I‘m bad, leave me alone!“, etc.

At the West Side (Northsea shore) you will find the „Nationalpark Wattenmeer“ (Wadden Sea, tidelands; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wadden_Sea), including „Friesenkaribik“ (northsea caribbean) – mini and micro islands in the tidelands.

At the East Side (Baltic Sea shore) you find several nice fjords and the islands of the „danish southsea“. The Baltic Sea harbous provide shipping routes to Denmark and all other Scandinavian as well as to the and Baltic countries (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_Sea).

In Schleswig-Holstein you also find the oldest and most famous Viking-town: Haithabu.

This „city“ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedeby) can be seen as the origin of international trade at Northsea and Baltic Sea.

With a length of 99.26km the „Kiel Canal“ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiel_Canal) trails through Schleswig-Holstein - from the city of Kiel to the city of Brunsbüttel.

This water street was built in the years of 1887–1895 under „William the emperor“ and is today one of the most frequented human made water streets in the world for sea going vessels (more than 30.000 vessels per year).

Schleswig-Holstein‘s „door to the world“ is Hamburg, providing an international airport and Europes biggest inner harbour.

And in between all these sights and nice places, within „the heart“ of Schleswig-Holstein (about 30-80km distance to Denmark, Hamburg, North Sea and Baltic Sea), there is located my native country, my home: the small and very nice city of Bad Segeberg.

Since several years Bad Segeberg hosts the Karl-May-festival (open air theatre; https://www.karl-may-spiele.de/nav-main/aktuell) and several music concerts in the „Kalkberg Arena“.

Kalkberg is a small mountain of Calciumsulfat (plaster stone) material (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segeberger_Kalkberg) with huge caves, that provide the biggest home for bats in Northern Europe.

So, Bad Segeberg is the best choice for (caching-)holidays, if you want to see the nicest area of Germany ;-)

After visiting all continents and all cacher-countries (as a minimum after travel distance of 15.800km - or end of year 2022 – whatever occurs first), when my log is supplemented with a long history and several pictures of my long trip, I want to return to my home Bad Segeberg and come back to Pico4Fun.

I started my adventure trip in March 2019 in a small bug hotel, that should provide me a direct hop to Canada ...
