PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THIS TRAVEL BUG FROM THE A.C.T
This is no Ordinary Travel Bug, it is part of a Canberra Cache Game, see below for the rules etc.
Canberra Cache Game – “Keepings Off”
Objective
Keep The Ball out of your zone and in the caches on the other side of town i.e. South Side cachers would aim to keep The Ball on the North Side of Canberra whilst the North Side cachers aim to keep it on the South.
Scoring
Points are scored per match based on the length of time (in days) that The Ball stays within a zone. The North side will score points for days they keep The Ball on the South and vice versa. The days are measured from the amount of time in the cache, i.e. if a cacher picks up the The Ball and does not place it in the other teams zone The Ball will continue scoring against them.
Matches
Matches will run for 3 months and at the end of this period a new game will begin. This will ensure that one team cannot get too far ahead.
Boundries
There is a guideline map available in the caching gallery. Please note that the map had been updated as at April 2014 (please ignore the low res map image in the gallery as it is the old map)MAP HERE.
To clarify this map we have tried to use the ACT border, however if we did this all the way around it would give North siders a distinct advantage, i.e. enabling them to use caches such as Mt Bimberi. Instead we have used some alternatives such as Paddy’s River Rd, and other main roads around Canberra with an invisible border between Tharwa and Royalla.
The area within State Circle will be considered neutral and therefore cannot be used to score points. This will give a kick off zone with Heart & Soul of Parliament cache being the start point of each match.
Rules
For fairness, the game has a few rules.
1. The Ball is not to leave the game zone.
2. Any cacher can move The Ball at any time
3. The Ball can visit any cache as long as it fits!
4. The Ball can only be placed in Traditional, Puzzle and Multi Caches. For puzzle and multi caches the final location has to be within the boundaries.
5. Each time The Ball is collected it must be recorded in the caches log book and on the website so the next cacher knows it has been moved. The cacher that has moved The Ball should also make sure they log which team they play for so that the scoreboard can be updated to ensure that the move is counted.
6. No one cacher may touch The Ball twice in a row, for example if The S's collected The Ball and moved it South and Tankengine then collected it and moved it North, The S's cannot touch The Ball until another Northsider has moved the ball.
Non ACT Cachers
Non ACT cachers are welcome to participate and can move The Ball to anywhere within the ACT however they cannot take the The Ball from within the boundaries. They can decide to move it North or south or keep it on the current side.
When you collect or move the ball please remember to state what team you play for so that we can update the scoreboard. The scoreboard will be updated from the day the ball is logged into a cache.
