Current Goal

Return to the site of the infamous WW2 Battle of the Bulge--The Ardennes forest in Belgium.

After the TB makes it to the forest, I would LOVE if it could make a pit stop in Reggio Calabria, Italy--where my grandpa's family is from.

***PLEASE TAKE & UPLOAD PICTURES!!! I don't care if it is a lame picture, a selfie, or ugly scenery--I WANT to see any pictures you take of my coin :) ***

While in the USA, I would prefer if you only place my coin in Premium caches or rural caches, in order to minimize the likelihood of it disappearing & going missing forever.

Once it is outside the United States, any cache will do--premium, or regular!

About This Item

The Travel Bug and the Bracelet I attached

My grandfather served in the United States Army in World War 2. His last battle was the Battle of the Bulge. While there, a German mortar hit nearby and the resulting shrapnel hit his leg, severing it below the knee. He lay in his foxhole, injured and unable to receive medical attention, which resulted in gangrene. He was rescued almost 24 hours after being injured.

After returning to the States, he got a wooden leg so he was able to walk around. He never wore shorts after that, and he almost never spoke about the war to anyone, even his children.

Sadly, he passed about 3 years before I was born, so I was never able to meet him. In his memory, I wanted to put out this travel bug.

The little string bracelet that is attached to the TB chain is made of has 7 colors that are somewhat symbolic:

  • Red, white, and blue - flag colors of the country he served
  • Red, white, and green - Italian flag colors, for the country his family is from
  • Black and gold - army flag colors
  • Purple - for the purple heart he earned as a result of his injury

Thank you for taking the time to read about my grandfather.
