Toynbee Tour TB

A very strange person has embedded all these plaques in the street mostly on the east coast of the U.S.A. but there are a few elsewhere in the U.S. and South America. They have been described as the "urban equivalent to crop circles." It's starting out in St. Louis, MO where there are two surviving out of the three that were originally here. I'd like for this travel bug to visit each plaque still in existance and be photographed next to it. For a list of known locations and some speculation as to what these odd things mean see www.toynbee.net. Please be advised that some of the plaques carry anti-semitic messages but the owner of this bug does not share these feelings. I just want to help document these strange urban phenomena.

This bug has traveled 1,090 miles, and still hasn't had it's picture taken at one of the mysterious Toynbee plaques. Well that changes today. Back where it started, in St. Louis, here are photos of the two Toynbee plaques, with gps coordinates.

  • 6th and Olive, St. Louis This plaque is at 38.37.683, W090.11.415 The coordinates might be a little off, I was having trouble getting an accurate reading with all the tall buildings surrounding this place.
  • 8th and Market, St. Louis This Toynbee plaque is at 38.37.581, W090.11.609 -- in front of the Peabody Building in downtown St. Louis. My gps did better here, since the tall buildings are a little farther apart.
