Cockmarsh contains four burial mounds and is a scheduled ancient monument. The largest mound rises two metres above the marsh, though the other three are less obvious. Several cremated bodies were found together with parts of a shield and knife when the barrows were excavated between 1847 and 1877. It's likely that the barrows were constructed in the early Bronze Age (c.200-700 BC), and also later used by Anglo-Saxons in the area.

This is the birth place of the Bucks Traveller, Wittington House is just over a century old, although archaeological remains on the estate date from the Iron Age. The site was acquired from Oxford University, and the estate built in 1898 as a family home for Hudson Ewbanke Kearley, later Viscount Devonport. Kearley's fortune was based on importing and distributing tea remembered by the sprig of tea in the carved crest over the main door.
The house was designed and built by Reginald Blomfield, later knighted, he was also responsible for the restoration of Chequers, the British prime minister's country residence.
The closest cache is the Expat Avenger on the path to/from the river Thames, unfortunately the grounds of Wittington Estate are privately owned by software company SAS Software Inc. SAS open up the grounds once a year to the public as part of the National Gardens Scheme, you can find more info about visiting the estate here.
