Goodbye Minion wants Bananaaaaa, it’s time to let you go. I took you on a wander through lovely Darebin Parklands and over to Alphington station. Darebin Creek runs through the area and is a major tributary of the Yarra River. For tens of thousands of years it was used as a food and tool source sustainably by the Wurundjeri people, Indigenous Australians of the Kulin nation alliance. Good luck! 🪃

I had some chores in Melbourne which took me past the cult baker Lune. The line used to stretch down the road but it was only five deep when I walked past so I grabbed a few treats including a Tim Tam croissant. Pretty delicious. Then it was out east to Deakin University in Burwood. That was like a ghost town. A whole university with only about twenty people walking around. Creepy. Not sure what their student policy is but it’s awful. 🥐

Time for some socialising for me so you meandered slightly north to the suburb of Thornbury. There was one annoying green spot on my map here so I made time to roll around in the dust prior to dinner. Saves coming back for a second trip. 🍽️

Took myself for a walk around Heathdale wetlands in Werribee. Nothing exciting happened. 🦆

Took Mother Wombat for a drive down to the Bellarine Peninsula, past Geelong, which is where she used to live. Had lunch at Ocean Grove overlooking the sea. A bit stormy today but lots of surfers were in the water. 🏄‍♂️

Finally, a day geocaching. Headed to a kayaking event in Daylesford, NW of Melbourne. It’s a town known for its mineral springs. Then moved onto a letterbox series at nearby Creswick, former gold-mining town, established during the Victorian gold rushes in the 1850s. One of the caches was a fantastic wombat one. This is not wombat habitat but we did see lots of kangaroos and kookaburras. 🦘

Bit of a disaster at Mother Wombat’s - her TV has died! Hit the shops at Hopper’s Crossing snapped up a new one. Hopper’s Crossing is named after Elizabeth Hopper, who was a gatekeeper of the level crossing over the railway line now called the Werribee line from the 1880s for thirty years. In the nineteenth century the Victorian Railways employed women, usually the wives or daughters of male employees, to work as gatekeepers. She did this and had 11 kids to look after. I’m not sure how frequently the trains passed by. 📺

Welcome to Melbourne, Australia, my real home city. It’s wonderful to be back. Dropped off my bags and headed straight into town to catch up with geoson. Did a walk around to see what has changed and try some delicious food. Melbourne is now Australia’s largest city and it shows. Very busy. 🇦🇺

歡迎返嚟中國 今次係廣州 Welcome back to China, this time it’s Guangzhou. I’ve seen the famous lights on the buildings in nearby Hong Kong but these illuminations are also a big favourite of Guangzhou. Very bright and colourful. Bumpy trip in because Typhoon Krathon was hitting Taiwan. 🌀
