La Ford Gran Torino est sans doute devenue mythique grâce à Starsky (propriétaire de la voiture) et Hutch (série TV de 1975 à 1979). Le clou sera enfoncé des années plus tard par Clint Eastwood et son excellent film sobrement intitulé Gran Torino. On retrouve cette voiture également dans le film The Big Lebowski.
David Starsky (Michael Glaser) et Kenneth Hutchinson (David Soul) se transportaient dans cette voiture rouge avec une bande blanche dont l’indicatif radio été Zebra 3. Le véhicule utilisé dans la série fut modifié pour obtenir des accélérations plus franches. Glaser ne l’aimait pas, il l’a trouvait pataude.
