Current Goal

This trackable has the modest goal to circulate more than five years and to be moved by at least 25 cachers.  That is a rate of five drops per year for five years, or a drop every 73 days.  As of 27-Jun-20 it had survived for 4.4 years and had been moved by 9 cachers, for an average release every 178 days.

No permission is needed to leave the U.S.  While in the U.S., please drop it in a Premium Member only OR a rural cache near a busy trail or road. Do not place it in an urban cache or abandon it at a caching event where there is no security.  Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean, protects the number and prevents tangling with other items.  Otherwise, take the trackable anywhere you wish.

Trackable photos are appreciated and will be re-posted here.

About This Item

lbscallopedwood

This is one of a series of heart-shaped items obtained from different places and converted into travel bugs. They are named either for the places of their origin or for Texas Panhandle-South Plains towns with interesting names or histories.

Turkey is a city in Hall Couty. The population was 494 at the 2000 census.  Originally called Turkey Roost for Turkey Creek and the roosting turkeys there, settlers began arriving in the 1890's.  The name was shortened when the post office (the dug-out of Alfred P. Hall, postmaster) was granted in 1893.  The town plat was recorded in 1907 and in 1927, the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad arrived.  The first newspaper was the Turkey “Gobbler.”  Turkey is best known as the home of Bob Wills, the King of Western Swing. Wills was a barber in Turkey during the 1920's. In his biography “Hubbin’ It”, Wills said that the lotions and soft-work of barbering kept his fingers pliable for playing the fiddle. Barbering was a trade that many musicians shared, since the day work of barbering never interfered with dances and holiday celebrations. Wills formed the Texas Playboys band and their music introduced a new offshoot of county-western music known as “Western Swing.”
