Goal: Travel from cache to cache in search of BRAAAAINS. Visit Geocaching events. Spread the plague. Please take photos!
Meet Izaiah, patient #257 in our ongoing study of the spread of the zombie plague via geocaching. Izaiah worked in an icehouse in Frederick, Maryland. He liked to bench press, watch Nascar, play darts, and collect vintage kitchen utensils. He impressively decorated the walls of his home with vintage-chic cheese shredders, potato mashers, and hand mixers. We found in Izaiah’s home correspondence from a well-known country interior design magazine that was interested in featuring his collection in an upcoming issue. Izaiah loved geocaching, and particularly loved challenge caches. Izaiah was also very social with local geocachers, and loved the sense of camaraderie he got from events.
We believe that Izaiah contracted the zombie plague from Stuart, patient #256 in our study. Stuart and Izaiah both volunteered with other Frederick, Maryland geocachers to help set up an event to launch a new "Biohazard Geoart Geotrail." Stuart became infected when he tried to assist another geocacher who was attacked by a zombie who escaped containment at a nearby research facility. Eyewitness accounts reveal that once Stuart turned, he found Izaiah carrying ice that he was donating to the event. Izaiah thought Stuart was coming to help him carry the heavy load, and was caught completely by surprise when Stuart bit his neck. Eyewitnesses stated that Izaiah quickly began to show symptoms of the virus.
This travel bug is part of a larger study to take a closer look at how the zombie plague might propagate if the primary vector for spreading the disease was geocaching. Please visit the following website for further details, and a visualization of how the disease has propagated thus far based on the movement and discovery of this and other infected Zombie travel bugs:
