Goal: Travel from cache to cache in search of BRAAAAINS. Visit Geocaching events. Spread the plague. Please take photos!
Meet Zoey, patient # 248 in our ongoing study of the spread of the zombie plague via geocaching. Zoey was a Phlebotomist in a research facility in suburban Maryland. The work done at the facility was mostly classified as top secret, and as a result, was very stressful. We know from documents obtained from the facility released that Zoey was one of a group of scientists working on a cure for the zombie plague. Zoey had a side job as a party and event planner. As a way to alleviate the stress of their jobs, Zoey created an employee geocaching group, and she used her event planning skills to organized geocache outings for her coworkers during lunch breaks and long weekend trips. One of the members of the employee group was Zoey’s coworker, Jonas, who is patient zero in the spread of the zombie plague.
Research reveals that once news of the spread of the zombie plague reached the facility, the employees at the research facility realized that Jonas was patient zero and that he likely contracted the plague from within the facility and spread it to those he came in contact with outside the facility. Email records show the facility ordered the identification of individuals Jonas came in contact with and their containment in the facility for the safety of the public and for further study. Most of those he came into contact with were geocachers. One of those individuals rounded up for containment was Judy, patient #1 in our zombie study, who became infected when she met Jonas at a geocaching event.
Researchers at the facility determined that Judy’s strain of the virus was the most virulent, which is supported by our research, which has revealed that Judy’s strain of the virus has produced the most number of zombies. We know from the facility’s records that Zoey was told to get an updated blood sample from Judy. Security camera footage reveals that Zoey violated the two-person control protocol and went into the room with Judy alone to get the blood, and when Zoey looked away, Judy suddenly bit Zoey. Zoey began to show symptoms very quickly, and she left the door to the lab open as she deliriously attempted to go for help. Security camera footage shows that Judy chewed through her restraints and escaped, getting completely outside the facility without biting anyone else. Zoey, however, fully turned by the time she reached the break room where her coworkers were enjoying their lunch. Soon, there were not many scientists left in the facility who were able to work on a cure.
This travel bug is part of a larger study to take a closer look at how the zombie plague might propagate if the primary vector for spreading the disease was geocaching. Please visit the following website for further details, and a visualization of how the disease has propagated thus far based on the movement and discovery of this and other infected Zombie travel bugs:
