This steel gated carabiner is much heaver than the ones I carried during my mountain climbs. This steel carabiner was likely used by some rescue agency that didn't have to hike very far.

Very cool TB, I love carabiners. My SAR team uses only steel 'biners because those are what the various rescue protocols dictate. I think we're restricted to screw-type gates as well, not automatic ones like this twist gate.

I snapped a picture of it with some of my other steel and alumium carabiners, 8-plates, etc. I'll move it along soon...
