Current Goal

Baby Penguin started with me in January 2007 in Kansas, USA, but it was too hot, so we had to keep him in the freezer. Please help him get to Antarctica and then to stay with our friends in Christchurch, New Zealand, where there is a penguin colony. If possible, please take a picture of baby penguin when you find him, so we can see how he's doing and our gallery can get bigger. Thanks!

Found Baby Penguin in one of the Jamesways at summer camp when I was inventorying their condition. He was attached to conduit in someone's room, having happily survived another Antarctic winter. Jamesways are old army quonset-style buildings that some of us live in down here at the South Pole where I work as a carpenter. The folks who have spent the winter down here in the dark, with no flights in and out, are getting ready to leave now. One of them has kindly said she'd take Baby Penguin somewhere fun and drop him off. He probably wants a change of pace from icy cold, but hopefully it's not too hot for him!

We got TOO HOT from nzheads and have him here with us in Christchurch. We will be his host until our friends who work in Antarctica come next month and offer him a ride to the South Pole.

Our friends in Christchurch are eagerly waiting Baby Penguin's arrival on the South Island so they can retrieve him and send him on his way to Antartica with visitors in October. They've tried three times (twice on the North Island, once on the South) to grab him over the past year, but he moves too quickly. Not bad for a bird that doesn't fly!!
