We are off to New York tomorrow and will bring this TBG along. If any city can make a TB move, it has to be the The Big Apple.
We took our picture today (still 16 left on the camera). The picture is taken from the south side of the North Sasakatchewan River (which finds its source at the Columbia Glacier in the Rocky Mountains.
It is a shot of two of our four kids with (we hope!) a cityscape of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in the background. There should be the tops of two-four glass pyramids which is the Muttart Conservatory. The Conservatory is a four biosphere plant repository. Nothing like visiting the "desert" at 30 below zero!
Edmonton was made the capital of the new Province of Alberta (over it's better known and ongoing rival to the south, Calgary) in 1905. It remains the gateway to the Arctic and once was a gateway to the Klondike Gold Rush of the 1890's in the Yukon Territory (not the best one mind you!). The City is the current gateway to the diamond fields which have replaced most other mining in significance in the Arctic. It is a beautiful four season city which retains all of the attributes of a stereotypical Canadian city with a vibrant arts scene, cosmopolitan population, and safe streets. Our city is one of the most economically successful places on the continent. The kids are representative of the connection between the South (my daughter was born in Edmonton) and the North (my son was born in Yellowknife)
