Current Goal

Conowingo Bear is traveling the world on a public relations tour for bears. He wants lots of stories and photo snaps posted to his webpage along the way. Hopefully photos will include people who help him travel, and other bears whenever possible (live or of the teddy type).

About This Item

Conowingo Bear

Conowingo Bear began his journey at the Funky Bearz cache, Conowingo, Maryland, USA, on March 25, 2004. His mission is in honor of a real black bear which was recently sighted in the Conowingo area--a most unusual phenomenon in this part of the country. A copy of the newspaper article from the Cecil Whig accompanies Conowingo on his journey. Conowingo was the hunting grounds of the Susquesahanocks, members of the Iroquois tribe. Conewago or Conowingo, means "at the rapids" in the language of the Susquesahanocks.

We left him in a cache surrounded by wild plum, apple and pear trees in a wildlife refuge. Hopefully he is also looking for a pair of eye glasses that fell off or flicked off into the bushes and a long search failed to find.

Retrieve It from a Cache 8/25/2008 Hengistbury retrieved it from Volcano Oregon   Visit Log

Found this little guy in the woods very near our home, obviously enjoying visiting with the many deer that live in the area. We could put him in a cache in England when we go at the beginning of September, or send him off sooner in a local cache in Oregon. Let us know which you would like.

Discovered It 7/12/2008 CrazyGAF discovered it   Visit Log

Discovered this guy while getting a cache that took a hike to get to. Beautiful view from the top of this butte, but it was a trek to get up there in the heat. Didn't have a bear handy... so posting it with a photo of our dogs instead. :)

  • Ranger, Madison, & the bear Didn't see any bears around... so our dogs will have to do. ;)
