The erection of Lange Jaap started in 1877 and was completed in one year.
The lighthoude is made of 16 iron plates screwed together to a 16 sided tower.
This made the lighthouse very heavy. (506 tons)
During the 2nd world war the tower was painted with camouflage colors.
A radarinstallation was installed in 1979.
The cap of the tower is renewed in 1992
Cracks in the iron floor prohibit visitors to enter the tower since 1998
The radar installation was torn from the tower in a storm but reinstalled in 2015.
The lighthouse is 63.45 meters high and signals 4xFI in 20 seconds.
