About This Item

AMTG Vogtland GC 1

Mid size coin with heft. 1.75 inches by 1.25 inches 3 mm thick 24.3 grams antique gold.  Available in other metal colors.  150 coins minted. There is one version with enamel. Unusual shape.  No enamel work on thiis version  but very nice metal texture and slight 3-D work. The front shows a building and the "V", done in black enamel, in vogtland is similar to a mobis strip.  The "V" is the only enamel work.  The rim and script are done in raised metal work. The background metal has a very nice brushed look. The reverse continues a good rim work and background metal textures. It shows two cachers hiking at sunset. It has script that reads "Team El_Rolfo" and "N50 36.529, E012 10.140". Nice Euro coin..

Info on the coin:  Info on the coin:  150 coins each in antique gold and silver, black nickel can be ordered. In addition, there was an LE version in Black Gold of 50 coins.

On the obverse you can see the "V" for the Vogtland district, the Göltzschtal bridge and the round church of the city of Klingenthal, known for musical instrument making and winter sports. The reverse shows the home coordinates of the owners and wandering geocachers.

The personal geocoin of El_Rolfo from Germany. Here is a description of Vogtland and the geocoin design from El_Rolfo:

The Vogtland is a region located in the southeast part of Germany near the border to Czech republic with parts in Bohemia and in the German Federal States of Bavaria, Saxonia and Thuringia. The landscape name Vogtland“ (in former times also Voigtland, terra advocatorum) based on the 11th up to 16th Century, where here were the Voegte of Weida, Gera and Plauen. Today the term Vogtland stands generally in linguistic usage frequently falsely as synonym for the Saxony part of the Vogtland, and for the district of Vogtland.

In the hills rise some rivers with deep valleys: The Weisse Elster, Zwickauer Mulde and Goeltzsch. For crossing these valleys for railway and traffic giant bridges were built. Famous are the Goeltzschtalbruecke, the largest brick bridge of the world and the "smaller sister", the Elstertalbruecke.

The geocoin design

This Coin represents approximately the borders of the district Vogtland in the outside form. Though this is not the entire Vogtland, we gave our personal Coin the name "Vogtland Coin", in order to make our home for Geocacher more well-known. Here are not so much geocaches like in other regions of Germany, however these are in a beautiful landscape at historical and cultural points.

On the front you can see the "V" for the Vogtland-District, the Goeltzschtalbruecke, and the round church of the city Klingenthal, famous for the music instrument manufacturing and winter sports. The back shows our home coordinates and Geocachers on the trip through the hills of the Vogtland.

So many of my trackables have been muggled that I only release new GCs as virtuals. If you do not approve, please leave it in the cache for a cacher who understands. Thanks. LR

Thanks to the 2023 Christmas Day blizzard my daughter, JMVonFange, was delayed in heading home so we spent the bonus time together comparing our caching statistics including trackables discovered and looking through our geocaching pictures. JM has discovered significantly more trackables that I have mainly because while we were staying home during the pandemic she spent time online and spotted numerous TBs that were being shared virtually on various social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. Thankfully, she still had a few notes that helped guide my search for the same trackables that she had already discovered. After looking at the TB page for each of the TBs that she had discovered, I found that a large number all belonged to several individuals and sent a message to them individually inquiring about permission to log their trackables. This travel bug was on the list that you shared with me.
