To travel the globe and makes stops in Austin TX, USA Any and all pictures appreciated.
In August 2017, Oompa.K and I vacationed in Austin TX. We had a great time seeing "the sights" and eating lots of BBQ. We heard about the bats under the Congress Ave bridge and couldn't wait to visit. The bridge is 946' long and every evening people line up on the bridge and in the surrounding park to wait for sunset and they flight of the bats. There are over 2 million bats, they don't come near the people, but instead fly out and head down the Colorado River in search of their evening meal. Some may think its a little creepy, but it is absolutley amazing to see this every night. While they all fly out together, they come back to the bridge during the late hours after feeding in smaller groups. The bats eat about 30,000 pounds of insects each night, with each bat consuming up to 2/3 of its body weight in bugs! A big plus: no mosquitoes pestering you there!
