Luna Nova Geocoin
This coin is 2.5 inches in diameter (64 mm) and is huge. This edition features green pearl enamel on real 24 karat gold. The names of the features are written in Mandarin Chinese. The edition name comes from the Chinese story that one of the dark features on the moon is a jade rabbit. In The West the dark features are known as "seas".
The Luna Nova coin shows the names for the Lunar features that date back from the time when people thought that the moon was a living world like the earth with seas, oceans, and verdant continents. The other side shows the topographic features of the actual moon studied by science including the lowlands ("seas" or "Maria"), the mountains, and the craters.
