About This Item

Sloth: I don't wanna do nothing!  Typically not associated with Geocachers because we are always out and about.

Way back in 2001, the first trackables were sent to travel the world. Geocaching.com founder Jeremy Irish released 7 "Deadly Ducks" into the wild and let people know to move them from geocache to geocache. To celebrate this monumental shift in the game, we have seven Deadly Duck Trackable Tags!

If you’re just tuning in, we’re at the finish line of the Global HQ Duck Dash event covering the end of this monumental race LIVE. This is Howard Cootsell, and with me is Duck Engberg and special guests Quackie Joyner-Kersee and Danica Quackrick. The first competitors came into view just a few minutes ago, and they were followed closely by a writhing mass of feathers that was once the main flock. Duck?
Any semblance of an orderly migration has completely broken down as these competitors make the final lunge for the finish line. Howard?
We can see on our monitors that there has been a little wing-to-wing pushing and shoving going on as they jockey for position.
I think some of the best photos in the whole race are being taken right now, Howard. The fierce look of competition on the faces of those ducks really tells the tale of this race.
You couldn’t be more right, Danica. All the planning – the training – the hard work – all the effort of the last 30 days comes down to this.
Ooohhhhhh……………
What did you see, Quackie?
Duck, there was a member of Team Lust in the lead, but one of the competitors from Team Envy reached out and clipped their wing!
Yes, I can see the fallout from that move. I believe that was Lola Duck who got clipped, and she fell back and crashed into Leo from Team Pride! That pile-up created a total mix-up in the flock, and the team captain from Team Wrath is absolutely screaming at the judges! There’s spittle flying from his beak! Howard, what do you see?
Well, it’s… it’s hard to see who came out on top of that one… I think – yes, I believe it’s a member of Team Sloth who has taken the unexpected lead!
It’s all those miles of saving up energy for this last push, Howard.
You may be right, Danica. It’s going to be a close race…
They’re coming down to the finish line… The flag is up… They’re beak-and-beak…..
And the winner is….. Fairies DD Sloth, for Team Sloth!!!! In second place is – was that… I believe it was ‘The Donald’ Duck, from Team Greed. Third place went to Cruz’in Duck from Team Gluttony.
You can’t imagine how amazing it feels to hear that crowd cheering for you, Howard.
That’s something you’ve experienced a few times yourself, isn’t it, Quackie?
Yes, I’ve been blessed.
Howard, there’s already a buzz from the scorer’s table. It seems that Team Greed has filed an objection, claiming that the finish was rigged. They are saying that Team Lust intentionally threw the race in a deliberate attempt to delay the Team Greed competitors. They are claiming collusion and favoritism, and claiming that they plan to sue the judges, the other competitors, the racing committee, and the broadcasting company for perpetuating the fraud!
It’s going to be a long and ugly mess to unravel, but it appears that the decision of the judges is final. Congratulations to Fairies DD Sloth Duck from Team Sloth on a spectacular race! From all of us at the arena, good night, and have a safe flight home!

Hello again, race fans, this is Howard Cootsell broadcasting to you live from the finish line for the Global HQ Duck Dash event. I am joined in the broadcasting booth today by my good friend, Duck Engberg. We also have some special guests with us tonight. To my left is famous sprinter, Quackie Joyner-Kersee, and on my right is speedster Danica Quackrick. Welcome, Quackie and Danica, it’s nice to have you here with us.
Thank you Howard! I have to say that as a sprinter, I’m not accustomed to long races like this one. It takes a totally different mindset. But I’ve been really impressed with what I’ve seen here during the race.
Why is that, Quackie?
Well, to start with, there was no race course. Aside from the team competition, for which there is no medal, it was every duck for themselves out there, and there were essentially no rules. They went a million different directions. And yet, somehow, all these ducks managed to navigate, on schedule, towards the finish line.
That is impressive, Quackie. Danica, what are your thoughts with what you’ve seen?
Well, Howard, as you know I’m more of a distance racer, so I’ve been watching the ducks that have been pacing themselves. Many of the competitors on Team Sloth have been deceptively steady, making up ground where other teams have burned out and taken longer breaks. I think this is really a race that will be won in the pits.
How do you mean, Danica?
Well, Duck, no duck can compete at top speed for 30 straight days. There will be highs and lows, and moments of frenetic activity. It’s important to make sure you limit your downtime recuperating, and the Sloth competitors don’t need much downtime. They’re down even when they’re up, so they hardly take any breaks at all. It’s a very effective strategy.
That’s fascinating, Danica.
Yes, Howard, and I really believe the ducks that will win are those that have taken advantage of opportunities. There are several ducks, for example, that have spent their time going from event to event, meeting as many geocachers as possible at each event. They’ve really been racking up the numbers.
That’s true, Quackie, and there are others who have hitched a ride with the supercachers, and visited over 1000 caches over the last 30 days.
Absolutely, Duck. That’s exactly what I mean. It’s hard to compete with that kind of tenacity and opportunity.
Just a minute, folks, I believe the first competitors are just starting to come into view. There’s a roar coming from the crowd….

To be concluded…
