Asbjornsen & Co didn't find a story about fairies today, only one about money. The crux of the story of 't Ouwelputje (GC116FZ) is money twice over. Firstly the theft of all the gold and silver as well as three wafers from the church in Appingedam by three thieves. They kept the gold en silver but dumped the wafers in a ditch near Solwerd. Shortly afterward the water from ths ditch turned out to have healing powers as a result of the wafers having being in there. And secondly the church of Appingedam and the newly build chapel of Solwerd (build across the ditch with a well to ladle healing-empowerd water) started arguing over how to split the donations. Decades later the bishop of Groningen settled the dispute and took a princely percentage for the diocese as well.
