In 1893, Chicago hosted the World's Columbian Exposition. Visitors there could see"Viking," a replica ship and the Norway Building. Planners of the fair wanted Norway to send over the Gokstad, a recently discovered Viking ship in a burial mound. Instead, "Viking" was constructed and sailed over in 28 days. After the fair, she ended up in Lincoln Park for many years and is currently in Geneva, IL looking for a permanent home. The Norway Building was built in Trondheim and shied to America for the World's Fair. Inside, the Norwegian government had an office as well as displays about Norway. After the fair closed, it was sold to CK Billings and moved to Geneva, WI. William Wrigley bought he property and used the building as a place to show home movies to his guests. It was later sold to Isaac Dahle and moved to Little Norway in Blue Mounds, Wi, but they closed in 2012. Project Heimatt in 2015 took it back home to Norway to Orkdal for visitors to enjoy.
