Current Goal

Aon Adhairc is Gaelic for Unicorn (literal translation is One Horn). This Geocoin would like to travel to the Orkney Islands.

Sorry it's just a copy. Too many idiots stealing coins these days to risk putting out the real one. No need to visit the unicorn into every cache you find, it just makes the map hard to read and load.

In heraldry the unicorn is best known as the symbol of Scotland. The unicorn was chosen because it was seen as a proud and haughty beast which would rather die than be captured, just as Scots would fight to remain sovereign and unconquered. Two unicorns supported the royal arms of the King of Scots, and since the 1707 union of England and Scotland, the royal arms of the United Kingdom have been supported by a unicorn along with an English lion. Two versions of the royal arms exist: that used in Scotland gives more emphasis to the Scottish elements, placing the unicorn on the left and giving it a crown, whereas the version used in England and elsewhere gives the English elements more prominence.

Aon Adhairc Unicorn - Purple

A laminated copy of the original Geocoin. It's attached to a gold homemade travel tag and a pink sequinned unicorn (which you can buy cheaply on Amazon should you desire to have your own).

This stunning coin comes in six versions. Each version is finished in hard enamels and has the same reverse showing the Scottish Saltire. The fronts are all a 3D design set under deep translucent hard enamel.

This is the X.L.E version - 55 made, Shiny Nickel, Purple with Black Glitter mane.

Goodbye Aon Adhairc Unicorn - Purple, I’ve dropped you off under a drinking trough on the South Downs National Trail. A lovely sunny day for a London Cachers HOT outing to Bramber, West Sussex. We met at the ruins of the Norman Castle for an event and then most of the group headed south to Shoreham-By-Sea. I’ve already found those caches so I took you on a different letterbox loop in the South Downs National Park. The nettles were evil. Good luck! 🌞

I took you into the area near Paddington for a Wherigo today. I thought this was an apt cache name for the day - my son sat his final exam and so finished school forever. This really was a large scale event in our house. No more kids at school. We start a new chapter in our lives. Congrats Geocachpro. 😘

I had to collect a student from my school who had gone to the wrong school for her A-level exam (???!!!) and needed to be kept under supervision. Stopped in at this cache on the Thames in Barnes as I walked between schools. Great to find a cache on this lovely day and even better when you are getting paid to do it. 📝

The second last day on my calendar with no Trad finds so I had to drag myself out despite having a long day at work. Walked to High Street, Kensington, and thankfully had a fast find. Not in the mood for any shopping though. 🛍️

I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to take you on some tree climbs along the Thames in Chiswick and Barnes. I enjoyed the view from the top but not sure I enjoyed hauling myself up on the ropes. A beautiful evening for it though. 🪢

I’m super busy at work right now which is why you are having a boring time. Today was one of the last days on my calendar with no trad finds so I had to drag myself out. I’ve saved a few caches in my Chiswick neighbourhood for such occasions. This area of Chiswick alongside the Thames was a fishing village named "Stronde" in 1353. By the 18th century, it had become a place of river-trade with many different businesses. It became fashionable with the opening of Kew Bridge and the presence of the royal family at Kew Palace. Now it’s a lovely place to have a drink and watch the activity on the river. 🛶
