The Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) operates from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, UK. The mission of the RAF BBMF is to maintain the priceless artefacts of our national heritage in airworthy condition in order to commemorate those who have fallen in the service of this country, to promote our modern day Air Force and to inspire future generations.
The iconic Supermarine Spitfire, designed by RJ Mitchell and built in Southampton, is part of the BBMF and is flown by regular serving RAF Aircrew who operates 6 Spitfires, 2 Hurricane Mk 2 C's, a Lancaster as well as a C47 Dakota and 2 Chipmunk aircraft (which I had the pleasure of flying as an Air Cadet back in the 90's).
