Sir Reginald Truffle the First
-------------------------------------------------
Reginald Truffle's Story
Reginald Truffle was born in the North Pole with asperations of pulling a sleigh much like any other reindeer idolizing Rudolf. He was a runt, but came from one of the most well known families so he still had a chance. Reginald worked quite hard towards his goal, but would fall just under what he needed to be capable of to make the team. Still, he didn't quit and was charged with the task of pulling the mail sleigh with an elf called Peppermint. This job brought him much joy and a new friendship so while baffled with his choices, his parents cheered from the sidelines anyway. Everything seemed perfect with opportunity around every corner for so long, but one day a careful balance was disturbed. The man in the red suit had decided he no longer wanted to work in balance with Krampus during the winter season. Thus, their alliance was broken and the North Pole declared war. Most important figures including Reginald Truffle's parents went into hiding for the danger to come. What was dubbed the Great War of Wishes soon began with bats and reindeer militias with elf pilots forced to fight secretly from the rest of the world. Reginald Truffle quickly joined the fight alongside Peppermint using their sleigh to not only deliver mail, but supplies to wounded and fighting on both sides of the conflict. No one knew that they assisted both sides, but only wanted to bring care and peace to all as they had been taught. The war seemed to carry on for ages until North Pole eventually overpowered Krampus's forces and he was wrongfully banished and unable to perform his job any longer. Peppermint and Reginald became reguarded as war heroes for their bravery, but did not feel they deserved the title as they opposed the fight and only assisted those in need never raising a hand or hoof toward anyone. Reginald still wore their tags as an ode to a life altering experience and strong bond. They then returned to their humble job of delivering mail as if nothing had changed even though they were now tinged with sorrow. Feeling alone, Mr.Truffle met with his parents and explained it all years later. Somehow, the news escaped and they became seen as criminals for assisting the other side. His parents fought for them both to be seen as the peacemakers that they were, but even their influence wasn't enough. Peppermint and Reginald Truffle reluctantly left to maybe help somewhere else in the world and avoid being shunned any longer. They brought peace wherever they traveled helping in even the smallest of ways until eventually settling in upstate NY. Occasionally, they still do as the once did, but they are tired now and deserve to rest.
Does this sound like an awful fanfiction? Probably. Still, believe it or not, this is their story.

Reginald Truffle's Truth
Reginald Truffle is actually a dog toy that was so cute I fell for it and had to bring him home around the holidays in 2016. Shortly thereafter, we were inseperable and he brought me a lot of joy and comfort. I couldn't think of a good name and asked the internet for some help. I only recieved two replies and thus he became Sir Reginald Truffle the first. I work as an elf so it was only fitting for my new friend to be a wonderful little deer to follow me around. I figured that it seemed odd though so I made him into a trackable to be discovered and go on as many adventures as possible. He likes to travel in my geobag to all kinds of caches and events now and no type of weather can stop him. Reginald is both a comfort item and a stim for me. He squeaks and I feel comforted when I'm with him. For some this is odd, but for me it works and I love to share that stimming and comfort items can really help and aren't all that strange. Everyone has had a favorite plush or bracelet and some still are comforted by them. The only difference is this is a different type of item.

-Disclaimer-
This TB will only be shared at events in which I have the choice to share only to those who ask and/or provide tracking numbers on a list. If I can put a list on a discover table, the info will be there and I will also show the actual bug to anyone who would also like to see it (I understand just seeing a sheet of paper is no fun). If a list cannot be provided, I am still willing to show it to people who ask. I have had too many close calls where my discover only TBs were almost taken which causes me to not want them to leave my sight anymore. My discovery only ones normally have some sort of sentimental value and do have a twin in the wild meant to share and travel so I hope you can understand my concerns. This one in particular is special because it is a very special deer. This one does not have a twin in the wild meant to travel as well.

Report to owner and friend of Sir Reginald Truffle,
Greetings from the snowy north land of Maine. I am writing to you after having had an encounter with Sir Reginald here in my home town. Things had not been going well here of the past month. Having been banished form the North Pole, Krampus had wandered the earth looking for a place that would accept his services. We all know that not all who wander are lost, but Krampus felt very lost indeed. After some time toiling as an assistant on a lobster boat he had to give that up as the sea spray kept freezing in his fur. besides that it wasn't fulfilling for him and wasn't where his heart was. He wanted to return to ensuring the strength of the spirit of Christmas and 'taking care of' those who did not join in the spirit of the season. He decided to work just in the area of Portland, ME instead of the entire world. The big guy up north, however, quickly learned of this through his 'elf of a shelf' spies located in many children's houses. This was completely unacceptable to him and he brought his full forces to bear upon the 'outlaw' Krampus. This war was much more difficult to hide form humans, and some (including myself) were brought in to help minimize the damage to the city and the people living there. I was at a loss as to how to restore peace between these two factions. I was at my wits end and was ready to give up. Neither side wanted to hear what the other had to say, neither was wiling to meet in the middle. Just last night I was sitting at my desk with a peppermint cocoa and trying to work out a plan when I heard a nock at my window. I looked up and the friendly face of Sir Reginald looking back at me (see attached picture that I took of him looking in at me). He told me that he had heard of our woes and that he had a plan, so naturally I invited him in for some cocoa. He told me that though his natural inclination was to help the hurting on both sides, he felt that he could do more good by getting the two sides to work towards peace. I asked how he thought this was possible because I felt we had tried everything. Reginald wisely pointed out that the key was in getting both sides to see the value in the other. He called for a meeting between the leaders of the two sides under a flag of truce. Ultimately, his plan resulted in the establishment of a temporary peace treaty which shall be reviewed and strengthened in six months time when tempers have cooled a bit. After the signing of the treaty Reginald decided to return to his home with you where he is well loved and feels wanted.
I write all this and am sending it with Sir Reginald to thank you on behalf of the people in Portland, Maine and the surrounding towns. To thank you both for Sir Reginald's service to us and his willingness to help us out. His timely arrival saved our towns and our people, but mostly saved our future holidays from the looming threat of ongoing turmoil.
Regards,
Bob
Mayor of Portland
