I maintain records on my trackables. They have the goal to circulate more than five years and to be moved by at least 25 cachers. That is a target rate of five drops per year for five years, or a drop every 73 days. The average drop rate of my trackables in the US is 124 days, in Europe it is 71 days. As of 23-Jul-23 this trackable had survived for 4.3 years and had been moved by 7 cachers, for an average drop every 227 days. Please keep it moving, then drop it in a safe place!

No permission is needed to leave the U.S. While in the U.S., please drop it in a Premium Member only OR a rural cache near a busy trail or road. Do not place it in an urban cache or abandon it at a caching event where there is no security. Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean and dry, protects the number and prevents tangling with other items. Otherwise, take the trackable anywhere you wish.

This is one of a series of large beads obtained from different places and converted into travel bugs.  They are named for Texas towns with interesting names or histories.

Dew is nine miles south of Fairfield in southern Freestone County.  The area, originally known as Avant or Avant Prairie, was first settled in the 1850s by pioneers from Alabama.  In 1870 the settlement's name was changed to Sunshine after the Sunshine Methodist Church moved there from Harrison Chapel.  The town was renamed Dew in 1885, when a post office was established there.  Locals requested the name Drew to honor a resident, but postal authorities misread the application.  By 1891 Dew had three cotton gins, three general stores, a blacksmith, several churches, and a population of 150.  Its post office was replaced with rural delivery in 1909. In 1947 the community had five stores, a school, and 195 inhabitants.  By 1992 Dew had a reported population of seventy-one.  Around 1912 a cemetery association was organized, and descendants and area residents still gather annually at the Dew cemetery. A historical marker was placed at the graveyard in 1977.
