Current Goal

I maintain records on my trackables. For a US-based trackable, this one is unusual for its longevity and movement. In the six-year period, 2010-19, the owner released a total of 3,793 trackables in the United States (96%) and Europe (4%). This trackable is one of the 5% of the total that circulated for at least 5 years and had been moved at least 25 times. That is a target rate of at least five drops per year for five years, or a drop every 73 days. The average drop rate of my trackables in the US is 124 days, in Europe it is 71 days. As of 30-Mar-24 this trackable had survived for 5.0 years and had been moved by 17 cachers, for an average drop every 107 days, or 3.4 drops per year. Please keep it moving, then drop it in a safe place!

No permission is needed to leave the U.S. While in the U.S., please drop it at an event, in a Premium Member only OR a rural cache near a busy trail or road. Do not place it in an urban, non-premium cache. Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean and dry, protects the number and prevents tangling with other items. Otherwise, take the trackable anywhere you wish.

About This Item

The Florida Keys are a string of tropical islands stretching about 120 miles off the southern tip of the U.S. state of Florida, between the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. They’re known as a destination for fishing, boating, snorkeling and scuba diving. The southernmost city of Key West is famous for Duval Street’s many bars, Mallory Square’s nightly Sunset Celebration and the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum. Each one of this Key series of travel bugs are named for one of the Florida Key islands over which US Hwy 1 travels.

We found this trackable in a very nice front yard cache. A safe cache, because you had to use two keys and 3 locks to get to the log and the trackables. The first one was hidden in a valve pit where we needed to use a magnet on a cord to get it out. With this key we could then open the first part of the cache and in that part we had to drop a coin in a toy vending machine (see photo) to get a ball with information to be used to open a padlock of a small container in this part of the cache where the other key was. And with this key we could then open the left side of the cache where we found this trackable key!

Now we'll do our best to find another safe cache so this trackable get accomplish its 5 year goal!
