One side of the coin shows a castle ruin of “Münzenburg” that is very famous in the region of upper “Hassia” (one of the German states). It is called “inkpot” for its two outstanding towers. The history of the castle dates back to the 12th century when “Conrad IInd from Hagen and Arnsburg” bought the area from the Monastery of Fulda (founded by St. Boniface).
The castle changed its owner several times and got partly destroyed once and again as well. In the 16th century it’s decay started and in 1847 first restorations started.
Today the castle is still seen from afar off, especially by travellers on two major motorways in Germany (A5 and A45). The towers have a height of 29m (about 90ft) and 21m (about 65ft). The text „ganz versesse uff’s Geocache in Owwerhesse“ is in the regional dialect and means „Absolutely obsessed with Geocaching in Upper Hassia“.
The other side of the coin shows a special drawing of a lion, which is the animal in the coat of arms of the German state „Hassia“ which is to be seen above the “Münzenburg” on the first side as well. Round the border are the names of four Geocacher who are that obsessed with Geocaching: Die_Solmser, Geo Chief, RoHu and St John of Beverley.
