Large coin with heft. 1.75 inches 4 mm thick black nickel. 1000 coins minted. Unusual shape with clear epoxy enamel. This coin is covered with matte pink enamel and 3-D metal edge work. The front shows a wild rose in muted dusty rose color enamel. There are multiple names under the clear enamel sealer. The outer medallion has script that reads "Alberta Wild Rose Country 2006". The reverse shows what appear to be mosquitoes in edge work. The medallion shows an ammo can, done in green enamel, with a red enamel maple leaf. The outer medallion has script that reads "Geocaching from the Rockies to the Prairies". The background enamel is matte primary blue. Good coin.
Info on coin: The first geocoin for the Canadian province of Alberta presented here was created as a result of "The 2006 Alberta Geocoin Project". At the end of September 2006, the new Black Nickel Geocoin designed by geocacher peanutbutterbreadandjam for Alberta was presented in the geocaching forum, 44 x 4 mm in size, coated on both sides with epoxy resin and produced in an edition of 1000 pieces by The Geocoin Store. The sale of the geocoins was initially only password-oriented to cachers from Alberta and from October 16 without restrictions.
The geocoin in the shape of the wild rose has always been the flower of Alberta, and its pink flowers pay homage to the geocaching pioneers. In the design of the details, an attempt was made to include other special features of Alberta. For example, ALBERTA WILD ROSE COUNTRY 2006 and the names of places in the province are written in white on the front, although many city names are missing letters, but the places are still identifiable. For example, the first complete city name is "Swan Hills". Mosquitoes are present all over the back, in the center an ammobox with the red Canadian maple leaf and a stylized yellow A. All around is the inscription: GEOCACHING FROM THE ROCKIES TO THE PRAIRIES.
Better know by its common names, the Wild Rose or the Prickly Rose, Rosa acicularis is a member of the rose family (Rosaceae). It was adopted by the Province of Alberta, Canada to be its official floral emblem in 1930. In Alberta, you can find the Wild Rose in bloom starting in late May and lasting until early August. The fragrant flowers are bright pink with petals 3-5 cm in size and can be used for the manufacture of perfume.
The Wild Rose is classified as a deciduous shrub (bushy shrub) and can be found almost everywhere in Alberta. The plant grows up to 1.5 m (5 feet) tall and has "bristle like" branches. The larger stems are densely covered with small prickles with the occasional thicker thorn.
Distributed by Geocoin store.
So many of my trackables have been muggled that I only release new GCs as virtuals. If you do not approve, please leave it in the cache for a cacher who understands. Thanks. IR

Thanks to the 2023 Christmas Day blizzard my daughter, JMVonFange, was delayed in heading home so we spent the bonus time together comparing our caching statistics including trackables discovered and looking through our geocaching pictures. JM has discovered significantly more trackables that I have mainly because while we were staying home during the pandemic she spent time online and spotted numerous TBs that were being shared virtually on various social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. Thankfully, she still had a few notes that helped guide my search for the same trackables that she had already discovered. After looking at the TB page for each of the TBs that she had discovered, I found that a large number all belonged to several individuals and sent a message to them individually inquiring about permission to log their trackables. This travel bug was on the list that you shared with me.
