Victoria, Australia

I’m sure not many trackables can say they’ve been to Paradise. Aren’t you lucky!? Paradise the town appears to be a community hall, a church, and a bus stop. That’s it. Even the town sign has disappeared. 🌈

Opa is on a multiday through hike of Gariwerd and we were meant to walk with him today to the Pinnacle. Unfortunately, Parks Victoria have shut that section for backburning - deliberately lit fires to reduce bushfire risk. Instead, Geocachpro walked with Opa until morning tea and then left him to continue along the boring lake walk while we climbed up Boronia Peak. Spectacular 360 views from here and we saw lots of native animals. 🦎

Made it to Halls Gap in the Grampians or Gariwerd, a place central to the dreaming of Aboriginal people, particularly the Djab Wurrung and the Jardwadjali. It’s very beautiful. There are kangaroos everywhere. Reunited with Opa after several years. Geocachpro is now taller than him. 🦘

Took you to Becketts Park and Maranoa Gardens in Balwyn. The original owner of Maranoa Gardens planted it with Australian and New Zealand plants at a time when everyone was planting English gardens. It is now one of the most diverse botanical displays of Australian plants in the world. 🌾

And a late change of plans for us because my train line will be out of action tomorrow. Zoomed down to my mum in Werribee and took you to infamous Eagle Rock cache - I think it’s the oldest unfound cache in Australia. I’ve given up looking but thought you could have a go! 😵💫

And now welcome to my home city, Melbourne. We headed to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to fix up GeocachPro’s membership and see the statue of cricket legend Shane Warne who died recently. Instead of flowers, the statue has beer, vegemite, Cricket balls, and cans of baked beans (Warnie’s favourite things). 🏏

Welcome to my actual home country - Australia! It’s fantastic to be finally back. After the long 17hr direct flight from London to Darwin and a bumpy approach in a thunderstorm, it was a quick stop before getting back on for another 4 hours. 🇦🇺
