Hilsen til Laird Niels Mikkel med ønsket om god rejse.

This coin is part of a cache placed in deep midwinter on the Winter Solstice when the darkness is heavy all around  and the ground is hard with winter chill. It is a tribute to Niels Mikkel. It is a tribute to the light he brought into our lives and all of those who knew him. His endearing eccentric ways, his laughter, his compassion. Give him a thought dear stranger as you put this cache back in its place. He was a fellow seeker, a finder, a Geocacher. And maybe the darkness will seem a little lighter this Winter Solstice.

Niels although Danish through and through had purchased a small patch of land in Glencoe in the highlands of Scotland. It is part of a conservation project for the Highlands. Along with the tiny piece of earth came the title Laird of Glencoe, the Scottish equivalent of Lord. My how Niels relished the prospect of visiting Scotland as a Scottish Laird of Glencoe. The very thought of it would put a swagger in his step and a gleam in his eye. Niels in a kilt. What a bonnie sight. We would joke and talk often of a joint trip to see his wee patch of land in the midst of the mystical valley of Glencoe surrounded by towering mountains and cascading waterfalls.

The picture of the trackable coin in the cache is a part of this conservation project. Alas he never got to see his highland domain. But come this Spring new buds will sprout on his patch of land and blossom  through the Scottish Summer. A fitting perpetual reminder of the man. The Danish Laird of Glencoe.
