I am from Houston TX, from fire station 16 in the Montrose area. I am easy-going, saavy, and looking for fun. Take me around the world and when I get back, leave me at the travel bug hotel outside station 16. I don't have alot of demands other than I love to have my picture taken wherever I wind up (pictures with firefighters or fire stations are my FAVORITE!).
This bug travels in memory of all of the firefighters we have lost in Houston in the past, especially the five in the last year.Travel in their stead, Mr. HFD Bug, and thanks to the cachers that are helping him along.
Please keep in your mind the hard-working men and women firefighters, police officers, and EMT's in your community. They stand in the breach when all the chips are down all hours of the day and night.
Some Houston Fire stations have challenge coins made. They are used as identifiers of belonging to a particular stations and for trading. Firefighters take great pride in belonging to certain stations and their communities and the coins are an extention of that sense of family and belonging. My best friend Captain Karen Dupont made this one for me and put on the travel bug tag. I am a Senior Captain at another station.
The tradition starts with military personnel challenge coins. When military persons would gather at a drinking establishment someone would throw down their coin and the last person to have their coin rattling on the table had to buy drinks for their comrades.
