I want to visit Jean Henri Dunant's city of birth, Geneva in Switzerland. I also want to see the city of Solferino in Italy, the city that hosted the famous battle Mr. Dunant witnessed, and that later became the inspiration for creating the Red Cross.
Other than that, I want to see the world!
All pictures are very welcome. :)
Jean Henri Dunant (May 8, 1828 – October 30, 1910), was a Swiss businessman and social activist. During a business trip in 1859, he was witness to the aftermath of the Battle of Solferino in modern day Italy. He recorded his memories and experiences in the book "A Memory of Solferino" which became the inspiration for the creation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 1863. The 1864 Geneva Convention was based on Dunant's ideas and in 1901 he received the first Nobel Peace Prize together with Frédéric Passy.
This travelbug, celebrating Dunant's legacy, is a small orange bag with a facemask inside - a gift I got when I first started out doing volunteer work for the Red Cross here in Norway. The mask has (luckily) never been used, but if you should find yourself in a situation where you need to use the mask to perform CPR while you carry the TB - please do!
