Current Goal

G’Day all of my fellow Cachers my name is “Lofty the Light House”. I have guided many thousands of old tall ships and modern cargo carriers through the treacherous waters of Bass Strait, as my light has been lit for 147 years I have been doing this for a very long time and I am still in service today. My goal is to travel around the world to see as many lighthouses like me and or tall ships like the ones that I have guided through Bass Strait for all of these years. Please help me on my first adventure around the world.

Hmmm, no lighthouses in Canberra but there is one in the ACT at Jervis Bay. Will see if we can there but if not will take to nearest thing Canberra has to a lighthouse-the Carillion on Aspen Island in Lake Burley Griffin. There's an event there next weekend so maybe someone is going to the coast after that?

Found near the scenic Point Danger Lighthouse - a modern lighthouse (1971) which used to be lit by a laser light, the first of its kind in the world. However this was a failure and the light is now lit by conventional means.

Lofty visited a decommissioned lighthouse, and the restaurant, at Cleveland Point today. The cache there is disabled at present so I thought I'd better let you know that he's okay and enjoyed his visit. There's a fair chance he'll see Point Danger lighthouse/beacon on the Gold Coast this weekend. Hopefully a nearby cache will suit.

SORRY, SORRY, SORRY - deleted the log for placing Lofty in Cookout at Bravo Delta. I don't have a copy of the number, so I've had to ammend this note with the details. SORRY, SORRY, SORRY.

Lofty has reached Point Danger on the Queensland/NSW border. It was dark by the time we arrived, so the lighthouse photo has been acquired from the internet. Apart from that, he and me were really there and he now awaits the next leg of his adventures.

Found lofty today with some muggles who are very impressed with this game we play. I'm flying home to Brisbane tomorrow, so lofty will have to visit his local friends on his return. In the meantime, I'll look for an appropriate guiding light near my home.

Lofty the lighthouse has been released to start his journey to visit other lighthouses. We thought we would start him off in Queenscliffe so he wouldn't be too lonely. He has been sighted with the "white" lighthouse at Queenscliffe but would like to visit some others in the area before moving on. Bon voyage.

  • lofty and friend Lofty with the lower (front / white) lighthouse at Queenscliff. If you line the white lighthouse and the black lighthouse up you are in safe water through the heads.
  • another view at Queenscliff
