ENG - Skateboarding (often abbreviated to skate or, less commonly, skating [2], a term also used to describe other sports that include a skating component), is a sport born in California in the sixties, which is practiced with a special tool, the skateboard, i.e. a board with 4 wheels: two front and two rear.

In Italian, the name of the sport coincides with the object used to practice it, i.e. "skateboard", while in English the name of the sport is skateboarding, a term not found in the main dictionaries of the Italian language.[2][3][4]

In a sense, it can be said that skateboarding was invented to allow surfers to practice their sport even in the absence of rough seas.[5] Since 2021, in the Games of the XXXII Olympics in Tokyo, skateboarding has become an Olympic discipline.[1]

The skateboard is highly customizable, given the large amount of variations in each of its components.
