These girls are on the run, so please move them to a new cache that is at least 2 miles from where you find them. Even though African Pygmy Hedgehogs are the typical type of pet hedgehog, these girls are from the UK and would eventually like to head to Andover, Hampshire - then travel back to Osage, Minnesota.
Hedgehogs are diurnal insectivores that can run up to 2 miles each night in search of food. They are usually mild tempered and roll into a spiny ball when threatened. When exposed to new smells a hedgie will usually lick at what ever the smell is on, then bite what it is smelling to throughly learn about it. After that the hedgie creates a froth and self-anoints her quills. Although no one really knows the purpose of anointing, some people think it is similar to a hunter using musk to cover his scent.
