Current Goal

The goal of this tank is to make it to the United States World War II memorial in Washington, DC. On the way to Washington, please let it visit any nearby military tanks or other military monuments. Please take lots of pictures. If you are a veteran or active U.S. military personnel, please take your picture with Grandaddy's Tank. Thank you for risking your life for me.

About This Item

Grandaddy's Tank

This Tank was released in memory of my dear Grandaddy who passed away July 6, 2005. Grandaddy was drafted into the Army in 1942. He was assigned to a Tank Corp and fought in North Africa, Italy, and Sicily. After the war, he came home to Alabama where he later married and had 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

He remained a patriot throughout his life. He only missed voting in one election (while he was fighting) and flew a flag outside his home everyday. He loved to visit, what my family has deemed, "Grandaddy's Tank". About a month before he left us, he asked my mom to take him to see his tank "one last time". He loved his country and his family. He was the proudest veteran I have ever met. That's why I want this travel bug to travel to the World War II memorial--a place he was never able to visit, but represents his war and the friends that he lost so long ago.
