Soot Sprites (also known as Dust Bunnies), the mysterious black balls of dust and soot that live in old, deserted houses, called "makkuro kurosuke" in Japanese. These things have seen in movie "My Neighbor Totoro" aka "Tonari no Totoro".

Saw it dancing in the snow. Unfortunately I couldn't grab it. It outran me because the snow was about 3 feet deep and I just couldn't catch up.
