Maligayang pagdating sa Pilipinas! Welcome to The Philippines! You’ve flown into Manila which is technically my home city since this is where Mr Wombat is working. Metro Manila is home to 13.5 million people and is actually composed of sixteen independent cities, of which you are staying in Pasig City. I met up with my friend RunYell and we had an afternoon in Rizal Park. 🇵🇭

That’s it, pack your bags and find your passport. Your time in the United Kingdom is over for the time being. I disabled this cache in my front garden and replaced it with an Easter themed one. Then it was off to Heathrow. Heathrow is the largest of the six international airports in the London airport system (the others being Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, City and Southend). In 2024, Heathrow was the busiest airport in Europe, the fourth-busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic and the second-busiest airport in the world by international passenger traffic. The airport is used by over 89 airlines flying to 214 destinations in 84 countries. 🛫

Right, really under time pressure now. I rushed into London near Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster, found a cache, and hurried back to Hammersmith to finish my work. Big Ben is actually just the clock part of the famous icon. It is at the top of what was originally known simply as the Clock Tower, but was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II. ⏰

You popped into Central London for some frustrating caching today. The area that I picked around Westminster was either a protest site, was closed off to stop protesting, was a building site, or they were filming a movie. Bit of a waste of time when I still have all my packing to do. Grey and dismal but at least not raining. 🤴

Today was a London cachers’ trip to Watton-at-Stone, Hertfordshire. The ‘at-Stone’ suffix likely refers to the Roman road that ran through the village. The village was the home of Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Sir Nigel Greasley, designer of the famous steam locomotives Mallard and Flying Scotsman. Then it was onto the village of Northaw with its beautiful display of daffodils for some multis. 🌼

Into the Fizrovia part of London for one of Goldpot’s London Events. They are always well attended and stretch into the night. London has a stong group of cachers who are very social and there are always visiting cachers. It was in a pub on the Metropolitan line of the London Underground. Built in 1863, the Metropolitan Railway was the world's first underground railway running between Paddington and Farringdon. 🍸

The good thing about waking up early due to the 2 hour time difference between London and Bucharest was that I could grab this First to Find near the big shopping centre in Shepherds Bush, London. Some important rock and roll groups have roots in Shepherd's Bush. The Who and the Clash infused much of their work with the youth culture of Shepherd's Bush at the time. Steve Jones, guitarist of punk legends the Sex Pistols, was born in Shepherd's Bush, and Pistols drummer Paul Cook grew up there. It’s also the home of Edina in the TV show Absolutely Fabulous. Good luck! 🇬🇧

Last day in Romania and we still had some sights to see. Looked around the Old Town a bit more and then walked to Revolution Square. Known as Palace Square (Romanian: Piața Palatului) until 1989, it was renamed after the Romanian Revolution of December 1989. After the crowd turned on president Nicolae Ceaușescu while he was making a speech in the square, he escaped by helicopter but was soon caught and executed along with his wife. ⌛️

You spent the day wandering around Bucharest seeing the sights including the enormous seat of the Romanian government. The Palace of Parliament is the world’s second-largest administrative building (after the Pentagon) and former dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu’s most infamous creation. Started in 1984 (and still unfinished), the 330,000-sq-metre building has more than 3000 rooms. The Guinness Book of Records lists it as the World’s Heaviest Building. Why is that even a thing? 🏢
