The U.S. Pharmacopeia has four monographs describing Ginger under Dietary Supplements:
Ginger is the dried rhizome of Zingiber officinale Roscoe (Fam. Zingiberaceae), scraped, partially scraped, or unscraped.
It is known in commerce as unbleached ginger.
Powdered Ginger is Ginger reduced to a fine or a very fine powder.
Ginger Tincture is prepared as follows:
A mixture of Ginger (200 g) with Alcohol and Water (7:3), a sufficient quantity to make1000 mL.
Prepare the Tincture as directed in Botanical Extracts 〈565〉, Preparations, Tinctures, Maceration Process.
It contains NLT 0.10% of gingerols.
Ginger Capsules are prepared from Powdered Ginger and contain NLT 90.0% and NMT 110.0% of the labeled amount of gingerols, gingerdiones, and shogaols, and NLT 90.0% of the labeled amount of volatile oil.
