Info about coin: Team "Fish Eagle" produced a "Fish Eagle" coin in 2006 which was the first trackable geocoin in South Africa, and was produced in the Netherlands..
This is the personal geocoin of Team Fish Eagle of Mpumalanga, South Africa. As far as we know, it is the first trackable coin from this amazing geocaching country. South Africa prides itself on its vast wildlife, beautiful nature, and cultural diversity - a true geocaching mecca. The front of the coin shows the head of an African fish eagle (haliaeetus vocifer), which is their logo, and the message "Wishing you happy and safe geocaching". The back of the coin shows the South African flag, and the groundspeak logo.
Mpumalanga is a province in the north-east of South Africa. Great variety - we have high mountains, many waterfalls, hot plains, many wild animals, and the Kruger Park. The capital is Nelspruit, S 25°28 E 031°00, and right now, we're into summer and it's hot as hell, about 33°C.
In 2010, Fish Eagle, who incidentally was the first Groundspeak reviewer in Africa, contacted the Geocoinstore to have a second edition of the "Team Fish Eagle Geocoin" made. It became the same coin, only with changed years, without an additional coating and with a blue icon in the background.
This is the personal geocoin of the Fish Eagle team from the province of Mpumalanga near the Kruger National Park in South Africa, which they designed themselves and had produced by Geocoins Nederland in a quantity of 250 (130 x gold, 60 x bronze, 60 x silver), although 300 tracking codes were purchased.
The obverse of the 42 x 4 mm coin shows the head of an African osprey in a slight 3D design against a black background, depicting the logo of the geocaching team, the text "Wishing you happy and safe geocaching", the team name at the top and the year 2006 of the Geocoin's release on both sides.
The reverse of the coin features the South African flag and the Groundspeak logo, also against a black background. The team name and the years are repeated all around. At the bottom is the name of the province of MPUMALANGA and the country SOUTH AFRICA.
Both sides of the coin are epaxy-coated.
Of the 250 coins, they kept 70 coins and sold the other 180. Unfortunately, they are all gone. They gave away the remaining geocoins.
In the webstore, the coin was available in Shiny Gold, Antique Bronze and Antique Silver. Team Fish Eagle received its own version in Shiny Nickel.
