Cathy's Betty the Parrot Trackable

To fly from forest to forest!! 

It would be awesome if you could post pictures of Betty with other birds along the way!!

I released my Betty the Parrott TB as part of our annual Family Vacation activity, although COVID kept us from physically getting together, we still had to release our annual Trackables!!   In addition to mine, Geo-Daughter's Aimee's Nature Heart CITO Leaf Nano, Geo-Son-in-Law's Andy's Rocket the Cat TB, Geo-Hubby's Dave's I Like Travel Bugs GC, Geo-Granddaughter's Gabby's Let's Get Extreme TB, Geo-Son-in-Law's Gary's Pirate Map Building Brick TB, Geo-Daughter's Ginee's Lots of Java TB, Geo-Grandson's Jack's Umbabaque the Functopus GC, Geo-Grandson's Sam's Brewsky the Beer TB, and Geo-Granddaughter's Sophie's Road Trip Crew TB, were also released!!

Betty is a beautiful parrot!!

She was started on her journey by Cathy Lewis in Prescott, Arizona, who wants her to fly to caches in forests all over the world to visit her relatives and other birds, as well!!

Betty is about 1.25" x 1.25" with a 3" chain for attaching hitchhikers to join it on its journey.  Feel free to add yours.

12/31/23 UPDATE - ORIGINAL TB IS BACK IN CIRCULATION.  IT WAS FOUND NEAR SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA, ABOUT 73 MILES FROM WHERE IT HAD DISAPPEARED IN DECEMBER 2021.  THE LOCATION OF THE PROXY IS UNKNOWN.  THE PROXY HAD TRAVELED ABOUT 2,408 MILES BEFORE IT DISAPPEARED IN TACOMA, WASHINGTON!!

RELEASED AS A PROXY ON 1/20/23 AFTER REPORTED AS MISSING FROM A CACHE WHERE IT WAS PLACED OVER A YEAR AGO.  IT HAD TRAVELED OVER 38,875 MILES BEFORE IT DISAPPEARED IN MITCHELL, SOUTH DAKOTA!!

Parrots, also known as psittacines, are birds of the roughly 393 species in 92 genera comprising the order Psittaciformes, found mostly in tropical and subtropical regions. The order is subdivided into three superfamilies: the Psittacoidea ("true" parrots), the Cacatuoidea (cockatoos), and the Strigopoidea (New Zealand parrots). One-third of all parrot species are threatened by extinction, with higher aggregate extinction risk (IUCN Red List Index) than any other comparable bird group. Parrots have a generally pantropical distribution with several species inhabiting temperate regions in the Southern Hemisphere, as well. The greatest diversity of parrots is in South America and Australasia.

Characteristic features of parrots include a strong, curved bill, an upright stance, strong legs, and clawed zygodactyl feet. Many parrots are vividly coloured, and some are multi-coloured. Most parrots exhibit little or no sexual dimorphism in the visual spectrum. They form the most variably sized bird order in terms of length. The most important components of most parrots' diets are seeds, nuts, fruit, buds, and other plant material. A few species sometimes eat animals and carrion, while the lories and lorikeets are specialised for feeding on floral nectar and soft fruits. Almost all parrots nest in tree hollows (or nest boxes in captivity), and lay white eggs from which hatch altricial (helpless) young.

Parrots, along with ravens, crows, jays, and magpies, are among the most intelligent birds, and the ability of some species to imitate human speech enhances their popularity as pets. Trapping wild parrots for the pet trade, as well as hunting, habitat loss, and competition from invasive species, has diminished wild populations, with parrots being subjected to more exploitation than any other group of birds. Measures taken to conserve the habitats of some high-profile charismatic species have also protected many of the less charismatic species living in the same ecosystems.
