Current Goal

My grandfather was a WWII & Korean War veteran. When I was growing up he shared his stories with me and always stressed the importance of peace. I am grateful for the hard work of our troops as they try to achieve that all important goal of peace.

The mission for this geocoin is to travel the world and visit as many beautiful places as possible to remind us of all that our troops are fighting for.

    Wasn't able to make the drop while I was in Europe earlier this month. However, your geocoin did enter the English Channel on 'Battle of the Atlantic Sunday' (06 May 07) approximately 100km north of where HMCS ATHABASKAN was sunk, April 29th 1944, with 129 hands.

    As well, we made it to Auschwitz-Birkenau along with 49 of my shipmates ... but I wasn't able to make the dash to the cache (GC82F1) just outside the fence perimeter at Birkenau (KL Auschwitz II) due to the strictly enforced 'buddy system' employed by our Liaison Officer, and the fact that my "buddy" was a muggle and completely uninterested in geocaching or the significance of the drop I wanted to make.

    I will get out to make a drop somewhere in the Halifax area in the very near future.

    Setting sail for Europe onboard HMCS ST. JOHN'S. Because of firewall restrictions at work I won't be able to log any activity until I get to a computer ashore ... ❔somewhere❔ ... can't say where or when, but it should be roughly Mid to Late May. Pictures will come upon my return home to Halifax.

    With any luck I'll be able to make the drop in a rather significant WWII location ... to be named later, I don't want to get your hopes up (or my own for that matter).

    Very nice geocoin, means a lot today as we have had tragic news of six Canadian Soldiers being killed yesterday in Afghanistan. Our hearts and prayers are with the families !! a very sad day for all Canadians.
