About This Item

__

Kokopelli is a prehistoric deity of the Navajo Indian tribe. He mainly represents a guiding spirit and storyteller from other tribes, but he is not the only role attributed to him; in fact very often he is represented as a traveling merchant who carries in his personal sack of light material goods such as feathers, shells, semiprecious stones and finally seeds. He is also regarded as a symbol of happiness, joy and fertility.

In his apparitions this man / divinity would visit the villages playing his beloved flute and carrying the seeds in his bundle (many think that its curvature would actually represent the sack of goods), moreover a legend sees him responsible for the conclusion of winter and early spring.

In the legend it is said that, while Kokopelli walks among the various villages playing his flute, the sun rises in the sky and the snow melts, the grass is colored with a luxuriant green, the birds begin to sing songs of joy and all the living creatures gather around to hear his songs / stories.
