Current Goal

In Apr 1974 the TB owner, JayEssElect, completed basic trade training as an RAF Ground Communications Mechanic (L Mech GC), at No1 Radio School (1RS), RAF Locking.  Shortly thereafter, I was posted to No12 Signals Unit (12SU), RAF Episkopi, in response to the start of the 1974 Cyprus Emergency.  On completion of this tour of duty in 1978, I returned to 1RS for further (technician) training.

On the day, the whole journey would only have taken about 12-hours or so, including a brief refueling stop at RAF Luqa in Malta, and the train ride from RAF Brize Norton, to Weston.  As was often the case, on arrival at my new duty unit, they weren't expecting me!  I have often wondered, had I been so inclined, had I decided to go 'globe trotting' instead of reporting for duty, how far I could have traveled before some clerk found the paperwork, noticed I was missing, and the 'Snowdrops' (RAF Police) came looking for me.  But report I did, so I'll never know...

But this little Travel Bug has now got a golden opportunity to make the break, and go on its adventures to extend the jourey time on my behalf.  It does want to report in at 1RS eventually (and probably face a court martial as I would have), but would love to roam far and wide before then  It would be great if you could let it hitch a ride with you, as all good servicemen would do in those days, to keep it on the move; just as far as your next cache will do.  And who knows where it will lead ???

NOTE:  This bug replaces the original "Home Posting - 1RS Locking" (TB7ZTT6) First released in Cyprus in October 2018.  It made it 1708 miles to Germany before getting lost.  Hoping for better things this time!
