TET - Tartu Building Materials Factory. Founded in 1946.Manufactured glassware and building materials. In 1976 produced 35 million bottles, 232 million ampoules, 187,000m3 of non-metallic building materials (rubble, paste, sand and gravel), 139,000 rbl. of electrical installation products and 349,000 rbl. of metal furniture frames, 883 employees, the factory had a workshop in Tsirguliina and a glassworks department in Meleski. From 1955 to 1980 the factory was managed by Robert Mertens.
The Tartu Building Materials Factory was not an old company - in 1986 it was only 40 years old. In a short period of time, the company had gone through a rather complicated development, as evidenced by the fact that it had to change its ownership twice in four decades. Its individual sub-units, such as Meleski, Sangaste and the glassworks in Tartu, were much older.
Additional information. When Gorbachev, who came to power in the Soviet Union, restricted alcohol consumption, the demand for bottles decreased and the Tartu headquarters decided to stop glass production in Meleski.
In 1987, the Meleski factory produced its last bottle. For a few years, Meleski produced rubber panel seals instead, and in 1992 the factory closed down for good.
TET – Tartu Ehitusmaterjalide tehas.
1987 valmis Meleski vabrikus viimane pudel. Paar aastat toodeti Meleskis hoopis kummist paneelitihendeid, 1992. aastal jäi vabrik lõplikult seisma.
