Visited 3/12/2025 Wombatwandering took it to WiCD - Matthias Church Budapest, Hungary - 15.07 miles  Visit Log

A busy final day in Budapest for you today. We headed to the Buda side, walking along the Danube and then up to the Buda Castle area where we checked out beautiful Matthias Church (Hungarian: Mátyás-templom), the Fisherman's Bastion, and the Castle itself. Then it was out of town for a cache to finish my 4th D/T grid.

Next was a session at the fantastic Szechenyi Baths, one of the best and largest spa baths in Europe with 15 indoor baths and 3 grand outdoor pools, saunas and steam rooms. I loved the whirlpool, it was carnage in there at times. After relaxing there, we headed to the train station. 🧖‍♀️

I needed a letterbox and they are hard to come by in Budapest. Hopped on a train to Felsőgöd, about an hour along the Danube. The greater area was home to Eugene Wigner, a theoretical physicist who won a Nobel Prize for his contributions to the theory of the atomic nucleus and the elementary particles.

Then it was back to Budapest for a prosecco cruise along the Danube to see the lights. The Parliament Building was especially stunning. 🌃

I met up with DalbergiaRetusa who is home in Hungary but is a London cacher like me. We headed to Margitsziget (Margaret Island) in the Danube to continue this long cache she’d already started a few weeks earlier with some of my other friends GazaniaRigens and Zouavesauvage. The island is mostly covered by landscape parks, and is a popular recreational area. Its medieval ruins are reminders of its importance in the Middle Ages as a religious centre. 🌳

Üdvözöljük Budapesten, Magyarországon! Welcome to Budapest, Hungary! You flew in last night and spend the day wandering around the Pest side of the city before crossing the Danube to the Buda side. It’s T-shirt weather here. Had a lángos at the market which was unpleasant - don’t go there. Beautiful buildings here. 🇭🇺

Visited 3/8/2025 Wombatwandering took it to Church Micro 5947...Hammersmith - St Pauls London, United Kingdom - 6.53 miles  Visit Log

I’ve got a lot to do today so it was just a quick trip to nearby St Paul’s Church in Hammersmith. People wonder why I don’t rush out for Hammersmith and Chiswick First To Finds and it’s exactly for days like today. Walked past the Apollo Arena which has seen many famous musical acts in its day and was tonight hosting Ilaiyaraaja, an Indian musical all rounder regarded as one of the most prolific composers in the world. In a career spanning over forty-eight years, he has composed over 7,000 songs and provided film scores for over 1,500+ films, apart from performing in over 20,000 concerts. Find your passport. 🎼

Visited 3/6/2025 Wombatwandering took it to It's National Cookie Day! London, United Kingdom - 13.63 miles  Visit Log

An event in London for a black cookie filled with sugar paste. I’m no fan of them at all. In any flavour combo. Just a quick in and out into London today. Things to do. 🍪

Visited 3/5/2025 Wombatwandering took it to SideTracked - Chelsfield Station London, United Kingdom - 14.04 miles  Visit Log

It was yet another lovely day so I couldn’t waste it. Took the train to Chelsfield, a commuter suburb of London which used to be in Kent but Greater London subsumed it. It’s still quite rural though. Edith Nesbit (1858–1924), the children's author lived in nearby Halstead but her famous Railway Children novel is said to have been inspired by her frequent use of Chelsfield station. 🚂

Visited 3/4/2025 Wombatwandering took it to London Pier Pressure Gathering London, United Kingdom - 4.76 miles  Visit Log

It was a beautiful sunny day in London again but Goldpot seemed to have selected the only pier along the Thames that was in shade so it was a tad chilly. At 346 kms, the Thames is the longest river entirely in England and the second-longest in the United Kingdom after the River Severn. It is often a surprise to visitors that the Thames is tidal until the lock at Teddington with a rise and fall of seven metres. ⛵️

Visited 3/3/2025 Wombatwandering took it to In Honour Of London, United Kingdom - 4.83 miles  Visit Log

I found myself with some time on my hands so I took you to visit the memorial for the Ladbroke Grove rail crash (also known as the Paddington rail crash) in West London. The rail accident occurred on 5 October 1999 at Ladbroke Grove when a Thames Trains-operated passenger train passed a red signal, colliding almost head-on with a First Great Western-operated passenger train. With 31 people killed and 417 injured, it was one of the worst rail accidents in British history. 💔

Visited 3/2/2025 Wombatwandering took it to Church Micro 7799...Battersea London, United Kingdom - 12.26 miles  Visit Log

London is really turning on the beautiful weather at the moment. We went south of the river to Battersea. The area is the home to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, formerly the Temporary Home for Lost and Starving Dogs. It was established in Holloway in 1860 and moved to Battersea in 1871. We tried to get a cat from them years ago but were rejected because we had kids. So we gave another cat a wonderful life. 🐈
