Located east of the Roman Forum, is a massive stone amphitheater known as the Colosseum. It was commissioned by Emperor Vespasian of the Flavian dynasty around AD 70-72. in AD 80 it was opened with 100 games, including gladiatorial combats and wild animal fights. After four centuries of active use, it was neglected and destroyed. Today it is one of the most popular tourist destinations, and is an iconic symbol of Rome,
When I think of the Colosseum, it reminds me of the Christian story about Daniel in the Lion's Den, and when I think of that story I think of my cousin, Daniel, with his long hair and body of a gladiator. But Daniel didn't fight wild animals, he fought the dreadful disease diabetes. Diabetes was the cause of death to his father and our grandfather. Daniel died unexpectedly Feb 22, 2021 and today, Feb 27, he was laid to rest. Danny was a competitor, he played baseball and football and exceeded in many tasks. He was a hero to many, he was my gladiator, always with me through the tough times in life. Daniel, you fought a good fight, now it's time to rest in peace.
