The oldest traveling geocache I've managed to find was placed in June 2001.   Traveling geocaches pre dated travel bugs and you'd have to find out where it had moved to in order to log it.   By May 2017 Geocaching HQ had archived all traveling geocaches and replaced them offering each owner of a traveling cache the option to convert it to a trackable with a special icon. Only traveling caches active at the time of the final retirement are eligible to receive one of these trackable codes.
