This little travel bug will start its journey in New Zealand, where many people suffer from diabetes mostly type 2 diabetes, which is the non-insulin dependent diabetes. Usually this type of diabetes can be brought under control again, with a little effort, change in diet and sport.

I should know, because I was on the borderline and managed to keep it away. Thanks to getting out and about with geocaching :-)

The aim of this travel bug is to get to Ipinda in Tanzania. I have to admit I had to look it up in the atlas to see where it is and a little research on the internet gave me this:

There are approximately 400 000 people suffering from diabetes, mostly type 2, in Tanzania. A new network of diabetes clinics, allows about 100 000 people to have access to treatment and education about diabetes. This is a major step forward, and Tanzania is looked upon as a model for other developing countries.

I hope with that the 'Unite for Diabetes' travel bugs will raise the awareness of diabetes in the world.
